Perimeter Protection

Perimeter protection is still the outer shell or force field that we must put up as a minimum standard.  As a minimum, the combination of a proven firewall and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) are an absolute must for any institution with a connection to the Internet.  IDS is past-tense and should no longer be considered as part of your security program.  IPS is the solution.

Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) is the number one selling firewall and IPS appliance in the world.  Built on the first hardware based firewall, PIX.  ASA has more certifications than any appliance on the market including government level and international, NIST, NEBS, ICSA Firewall, ICSA IPSec, NSS, and FIPS.  Today, it simply doesn’t make sense to have separate firewalls and intrusion prevention systems, especially when you need security to run together as a system and not desperate point solutions speaking different languages.  The ASA is a key component to the Self-Defending Network and collaborates with end point security, threat mitigation, routers, and log management systems.
